Global Studies Guest Speakers: Palagummi Sainath
Mr. Sainath is a pre-eminent Indian journalist who focuses on pressing issues of rural development. He is the rural affairs editor of The Hindu and the author of the highly acclaimed book, Everybody Loves a Good Drought, on globalization and poverty in India. His writings and photography have been influential in brining world attention to the plight of the rural poor. Mr. Sainath has received numerous awards. In 2000, he became the first journalist in the world to win Amnesty International's Global Human Rights Journalism prize in its inaugural year. Has also received the European Commission's Natali Prize in 1994, the A.H. Boerma Award in 2001, the Prem Bhatia Award for excellence in political reporting and analysis for 2003-04, and many others.
